Carpinus betulus (Hornbeam) is an excellent native hedging plant with ovate soft ribbed green leaves turn yellow to bronze in autumn and kept in winter through to spring. One of the best hedging plants for heavy soils. Tolerant to shady and moist positions. This size is excellent for creating an instant hedge.

Plant a single row, 4 plants to the metre.
For a thicker hedge, plant a staggered double row 6 plants to the metre.
