Transplanted, bushy, feathered trees for hedging. Carpinus betulus (Hornbeam) is a deciduous, native tree that resembles beech but is a much smaller tree that spreads with age. Fluted grey bark. The ovate ribbed leaves turn yellow in autumn and then brown. Makes an excellent hedge and the leaves remain on the plant until spring. Likes heavy wet soil but also grows very well on chalky soils.
