Crataegus monogyna (Hawthorn or Quickthorn) is a native bushy shrub or small tree, dense twiggy habit. Fragrant white flowers in May. Red fruits in autumn. Makes an excellent hedge that can be trimmed to size and shape as required. It will make a fine hedge on its own but it is usually planted as the main plant in mixed native hedges.
Suggested Planting Distances
Plant a single row, 4 plants to the metre.
For a thicker hedge, plant a staggered double row, 6 plants to the metre.
