Sambucus nigra (Elder, Elderflower or Elderberry) is a vigorous native deciduous shrub. Has large flat clusters of white flowers in the summer which are followed by small black elderberries. Attracts wildlife and will grow in most soils, especially chalky sites. The flowers are use to make delicious elderflower cordial or wine. The fruit can also be used to make cordial, jelly or wine. Good in mixed hedges.
